Bright, breezy, full of colour and with just the right amount of panache… this is an artists’ house. The owner is a comedian who runs a comedy school for kids. She loves frivolity and opulence – it’s a happy combo’.

The owner is a comedian and you’ll find her irreverent humour throughout the house.

The kitchen is our favourite. Open-plan, perfectly formed for gatherings and with enough styled exuberance that everyone will be smiling. Bedrooms are just lovely, the pictures are accurate. The garden is grassy and long. Dogs and kids alike will be charmed.

Walk 10 minutes from here to the beach and the village. Take the footpath by pretty Dane Stream.
Milford on Sea village is full of vim and vigour and the beach is sandy at mid-low tide. There are castles, crabbing, paddle boarding, wild swimming here too.

more about this place...

Stay in this tile-hung country house for a big dose of happy vibes.

The open-plan kitchen is a maximalist style through and through. But it’s also orderly. Even the cups are lined up. The table seats 10, with a bench down one side, so you can add another seating place in easily. Toddlers will be in on the action too with a high chair provided for you.

Opening off the kitchen is the conservatory. It’s a kids heaven with masses of toys, big sofas, TV, board games and a giant box of Lego.

The sitting room is beautifully styled and has double doors that open into the long garden. There is a BBQ here and it catches the afternoon sun. Great for time out and relaxing after a hard day at the beach. In cooler months, then pile in here to watch DVD’s and warm up by the wood burner.

Art is central to the house. Creativity and colour beams at your from every wall. Modern oils, contrasting patterns and prints. The lighting here is interesting. Wannabe stylists (and real ones) will have plenty to Instagram.

Upstairs bedrooms are chic and smart. The main bedroom is a clear winner. It’s huge and has a sunken bathroom with, (and how wonderful is this idea) a TV that you can swivel around – so that can watch Netflix movies from the bath. Marvellous! If you still need more washing options, then there is a shower here too.

Next door is a small and very lovely blue double room. It and the other two children’s rooms share a cobalt blue shower room. The children’s rooms are charming. One darker and has a single bed with a pull out underneath it. One is larger and more girly with a double bed and views down the garden.

Dogs are welcome here. The owner has two little miniature Dachund so the dog containment options are excellent. Dogs are welcome in the kitchen area but not on the carpets please. The owners dogs use the utility room which has a tiled floor and is perfect for dog beds, prams, shoes and the general paraphenalia of beach and forest exploring.

Family

A wonderful spot. Masses of toys and kit in the house. Walk to the beach easily. It’s sandy at mid-low tide. Forage for samphire from August to Sept on the Hurst Spit.

You are welcome to invite up to 4 others for a day visit to the house. So VIP meals for a loved one are easy here.

Best for…

Families with people to spoil – especially good for VIP birthdays and multi generation family groups.

what makes this special...

Here’s a funny thing… The house has some eccentric Gothic arched windows in the kitchen. They came from the dressing room at George V’s coronation in 1911. A celebration indeed!

We love the village of Milford on Sea. It’s is a vibrant, welcoming and you can walk there in 10 mins along the pretty Dane Stream footpath.

The Cave is superb for drinks, Hurst on the Hill is great for breakfast and coffee, The Lazy Lion is a decent and reasonable pub with garden and kids play area. Britannia Thai is superb with a great takeaway selection. No64 Biscuit House and The Old Smithy are great for an eclectic and upmarket gift selection. The WashHouse microbrewery has a ‘take your own food’ policy and has loads of board games.

It really has to be the proximity to the beach, we just can’t get enough of it.  Whether you fancy a quiet and refreshing morning swim, a relaxed family BBQ for lunch or an evening sundowner, this is the place for you.

For those wanting a bit more action – take your kayak, paddle board or windsurfer and launch off from here.

Keyhaven hamlet is 1 mile along the coast from Milford village. It’s pretty, boaty and charming. Take a boat from here to discover Hurst Castle which is also well worth a visit. You’ll blow your cobwebs away on the mile walk back. You can hire paddle boards and take a half or day trip here too. Don’t forget to forage for samphire on the way home. Read more in our Insiders Guide to Keyhaven here.

don't just take our word for it...

We stayed over Easter. It was so lovely to be near the coast and forest but also away from everyone. The drive is long and it felt like we were the only ones around. The style and colours in the house are such fun. You can tell the owners are artists themselves. We really appreciated the stairgate for the kids. The beach was indeed sandy at low tide and it was great walking the dog there. No dogs on leads policy is really so nice. Our dog is a Dalmation and bouncy, so we put him in the dog pen area at the house but he jumped out. The fence is thigh high. Apart from that we had the best time and we'll definetely be back.

the location...

Milford on Sea is a lively and picturesque village just a few miles from the market town of Lymington.  It sits on the coast and has extensive beach front which is sandy at low tide.

The beach is always bustling in the summer months with windsurfers, kite surfers, kayakers and paddle boarders, plus swimmers enjoy the quick swim to the sandbar where groups gather to chat or splash around in the surf.  Nestled just back from the beach, the nature reserve is worth a walk through. It can be accessed along the stream through the centre of the village and winds up to the back of the houses and gardens. There are a few good rope swings for the young ones along the way. Wellies a must in the winter!
