Fancy a smarty-pants bolt hole? The country and coast are right on your doorstep here in this romantic little spot. In our opinion it’s the ultimate urbanista’s countryside stay. You get the broad views, the fresh air, and an immaculate modern-country style.

This ‘Barn’ is quite something. Super smart and recently converted, it lacks nothing and sparkles with high-quality everything. The feeling here is modern country with lovely textures. Pale grey walls, sparkling whites, dark navy velvet to cocoon you in a beautiful bedroom.

We love this place because a 5 minute stroll away, you’ll get to the village of Milford on Sea. It’s full of vim and vigour. It has a knockout deli with the best local coffee and eats, a fabulous (and very reasonably priced) massage and beauty therapist, and a micro-brewery.

The beach walks are 10 minutes down the road. Hike the coastal path, paddle board to a castle, forage for samphire, borrow the Barn bikes and head off for any adventure…. love it all.

more about this place...

The owner here is a property developer. The house and this Barn is very private. You’re well off the road and invisible to anyone. The Barn is at the back of the property facing the fields beyond. You’ll get bucolic views across the broad fields down to the sea and the Isle of Wight beyond. You can see the Spinnaker Tower in Portsmouth on a good day.
Being a builder, he’s not one to cut corners. Everything is proper. Beds are big and best. The sofa is robust, svelte and locally made. All the carpentry is immaculate and finishes inside and out are very smart. The whole place was built to last.

Inside:

The kitchen is open plan and big. The owners decided not to put in two bedrooms and go for space instead. The kitchen is the full width of the barn and has a table with 6 chairs central. For cooks, there is an electric hob, a single oven, plenty of fridge storage, gadgets and gizmo’s including a new Nespresso coffee machine.
There is a lovely picnic basket supplied, with rugs, for you to take off on adventures into the forest and coast.
To one side is a lovely sitting room area with deep sofa for 2, armchairs and a SMART TV, a perfect and faux fire for instant heat and the rural vibe. It’s perfect for chilling out on winter evenings.
The bedroom is chic and the bed is huge. Sleeping Beauty would have been jealous. it’s built by local craftsmen and is a creation made for long nights and late mornings. There is another SMART TV mounted on the wall in here. The ensuite is sparkly and towels are fluffy and perfect.

Outside:

There are two separate decks which sandwich the barn. There are smart. At the back there are dining chairs to dine al fresco. A Weber gas BBQ is smart and new and there is a bench seat for looking out over the fields.

There is good parking, well off the road at the back of the property for 2 cars.

On arrival, you’ll also find:

A welcome pack with a homemade sweet treat including milk along with all your essentials for in the kitchen (oil, tea, coffee, salt and pepper).

Accessibility:

The Barn is on level with only 1 small step up. You can park right by the front door.

what makes this special...

The views. The high end styling. The location. The total privacy.

The village is pretty special and getting more so as time goes on. We love The Wash House microbrewery where you can take your own food (or order in from local restaurants). They have masses of board games there too. It’s great fun.

The bigger local beaches are a 10 – 15 mins walk along the coastal path. There is a tiny beach in Keyhaven harbour (10 mins walk),  the access to the water couldn’t be better for paddle boarding/kayaking. Bring your own or hire locally.

Want a romantic walk? Fancy blowing away your cobwebs? There’s more on our blog here. Start with this one: Discover Hurst Castle and the walk back – a must from this house!

We spent a happy few days here in the beautiful house. We have never experienced a holiday let which was as well stocked. You have thought of everything! We enjoyed walks along the beach and cliffs; shopping trips to Lymington; and a lovely meal at The Cliff House. Coffee and cake at the Beach House is recommended. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves in the lap of luxury and hope to be back again. Thank you.

Thank you for a great weekend! The barn was lovely - from the thoughtful foodie supplies to the well stocked kitchen and classy toiletries! We enjoyed mooching around Lymington marketing and had a absolutely delicious meal in Verveine and sampled some tasty beers at The Wash House. A cosy stay in a quiet oasis with all the creature comforts!

“We had a wonderful weekend at Apple barn, the weather wasn’t great but the cottage more than made up for it, with all we needed and a lot more. The cottage was elegant, cosy and warm and the bed was exceptionally comfy. Everything in the cottage has been thoughtfully chosen. We found great shops in Milford and really enjoyed cooking in such a well equipped kitchen. The cupboards were well stocked with oils, herbs etc and the treats left for us were a lovely surprise. The cottage is in a very quiet and private location, but just a few minutes walk into the village and 10 minutes from the sea. It was all just delightful.“

the location...

Milford on Sea is a lively and picturesque village just a few miles from the market town of Lymington.  It sits on the coast and has extensive beach front which is sandy at low tide.

The beach is always bustling in the summer months with windsurfers, kite surfers, kayakers and paddle boarders, plus swimmers enjoy the quick swim to the sandbar where groups gather to chat or splash around in the surf.  Nestled just back from the beach, the nature reserve is worth a walk through. It can be accessed along the stream through the centre of the village and winds up to the back of the houses and gardens. There are a few good rope swings for the young ones along the way. Wellies a must in the winter!
