They will help you chose over the phone if necessary and can deliver your wine straight to the house you’ve rented through us.

    Limewood Hotel, 02380287177 – Or perhaps you want to go out to a spa? The only choice we suggest is Limewood Hotel. This famous spa needs no introduction. Part of the Limewood Hotel, itself a New Forest institution, the spa is often noted in articles rating the worlds best spas. We love this place and can vouch for the bubbly, warm, peace and quiet in the various tree-view pools, the immaculate pools and the fantastic treatments.

    Things to do with kids:

    Lymington Sea Water Baths, 01590 678882 – They have a crazy obstacle course now. Perfect for kids, who swim, aged from 6 – 60 (summer only). There’s even a sandpit and a small set of floats for smaller children. Our guests get a free coffee or ice-cream for one parent going with children.

    Puffin Cruises, 07850 947 618 – The boat goes from Lymington Quay and takes you off for half an hour toward Hurst Castle. They also do 1 hour picnic trips, a ferry service to the Island and evening sunset trips. Staying with us means you’ll get a 10% discount off.

    Longdown Activity Farm, 023 8029 2837 – 10 mins drive toward Southampton, they usually have a good selection of baby animals. Just past here is New Forest Wildlife Park (we’ve not visited).

    Paultons Park, 023, 8081 4442 – Paultons Park and Peppa Pig world is excellent for young children but a good 45 mins drive from the southern New Forest boundary and it gets very busy at peak times.

    We prefer, the very more local options of:

    A picnic at Lepe beach. It’s pebbly and sandy. Mornings are quieter but it gets sunset in evening. You can park on the beach, or on the road nearby.

    • Saturday morning market in Lymington. From 7am – 2pm ish Lymington market.

    A gentle riverside walk. Wander for 1-2 hrs from Beaulieu to Bucklers Hard alongside the Beaulieu River in the nature reserve…..just beautiful. Park in the car park at Beaulieu (post code SO42 7YD) go out on to the high street, cross the road and you’ll find a sign showing the beginning of the walk.

    – Or park at the Agamemnon boat yard at Bucklers Hard and walk upstream.

    Beaulieu, 01590 612345 – For a full day out, visit Beaulieu. There is lots to do and see including the National Motor Museum, Palace House, Gardens, Beaulieu Abbey, World of Top Gear and a ride on the Monorail.

    New Forest Activities, 01590612377 –

    A well known and respected company based in Beaulieu (office and bike hire) and Bucklers Hard (water based activities).

    *They give us a 10% discount off any activity for our guests. That’s £19.20 off a 2 hour kayak trip on the Beaulieu River for 6. Normally £192 but reduced to £172.80. (Normal price £32 per person, reduced to £28.80 )

    Calshot Activity Centre, 02380 892 077 – Walk the coastal path to Calshot Activity Centre. There is masses to do and it’s well worth the trip. The climbing centre is superb. It’s also worth walking from there along the foreshore, past the hundreds of beach huts, toward Lepe. (You can’t connect to Lepe without heading inland – there’s a bird reserve in the way). The walk is shingly, pretty and very typically British seaside-y. There is a little cafe about 1.5 hours around the coast which is a good stopping point.

    Lymington Train, Pier: SO41 5ZE, Town: Mill Lane SO41 9AZ – Take the train from Lymington Pier (or Lymington town) to Brockenhurst, change at Brock’ and go onto Beaulieu Road station for a drink at the Drift Inn and a walk (or cycle back).

    Oak Inn Pub, Bank, 02380 282350, SO43 7FD – Day walk or cycle from Brockenhurst to the tiny hamlet of Bank. Have lunch at Oak Inn pub and walk back (the same way). See no 8. on walks list.

    Horse Riding, 07503 507 324 – In Brockenhurst and better reputation for novices.

    Cyclexperience, 01590 624 808 – Hire bikes at Brockenhurst from Cyclexperience. They have bikes for all sorts including masses of kiddy-trailers, seats, trikes etc. A short cycle away there are several off road cycle routes through the forest…..traffic free, most of it is flatish on gravel tracks. Also worth considering for families with children.

    New Forest Navigation and New Forest Guided Walking, 07873 575 997 – Our guests get 15% off all courses which are great for kids looking to learn some bush craft skills. Nigel is our local navigation guru and he runs courses on map reading, compass use, night walking, backpacking and wild camping trips – learning to plan and go on your own adventures including equipment buying advice, training and expedition and wild camping training courses for one to one, couples or groups.

  • Blow the cobwebs away on the coast…

    Wightlink Ferry, 0333 999 7333, SO41 5TB – Ferry to Yarmouth on the Isle of Wight on the Wightlink ferry from Lymington. Cook your own meat on the table at Saltys, or great new deli and café’s by the seafront. Get take-away walk out to the pier hut and watch the sailing boats.

    Exbury Gardens, 02380 891 203 – Woodland walks and world famous displays of rhododendrons, azaleas and camellias. After, head toward Exbury and walk on the coast track by the boat house that juts into the sea at Lepe.

    Hurst Castle, 01590 642344 – Walk the shingle spit and brave the wind to Hurst Castle, an ancient fort. Have coffee n cake in the tea rooms. Take the ferry o r w a l k back. There are sandy beaches revealed at half way to low tide. And good crabbing from the little bridge where the spit connects to the mainland.

    Kayaking, 01590 612377 – Take a trip on a kayak and explore the Beaulieu River with New Forest Activities. Theyalso do archery, bush craft, hiking, skills days, other water sports.

  • Things to do for grown ups

    Spa Days at Limewood Hotel, 02380 287 177 – Spa at Limewood, very spoily and chi-chi. Make sure you book. Or just go for drinks. Walking from here is very good too.

    The Pig Hotel, Brockenhurst, 0345 225 9494 – Drinks, veg out, flick great picture books at The Pig, Brockenhurst or at Limewood. Hard to get a table for food so book in advance. Again, walking from here is lovely.

    Picnics – Do a serious picnic with all extra’s and watch the sunset over the island. Good at Tanners Lane Beach

    Visit Yarmouth – Day trip to the island; ferry from Lymington to Yarmouth, lots of great restaurants and walks there, visit Cowes return on the ferry to Southampton.
